Joni Morris, Financial Aid Associate IIIHello! My name is Joni Morris and I am running for the Treasurer position of HFC-SSA. The treasurer’s main responsibilities include collecting dues, keeping accurate records, preparing financial reports, and preparing state & federal tax returns. These tasks require several skills, of which I will highlight below to share why I am the best candidate for the job.First, is my dedication to Henry Ford College. I began my career here fourteen years ago and still excel in my position as a Financial Aid Associate. I'm always striving to enhance my knowledge, so that I can better assist our students and staff. I served on the Operations Council (including the role of Vice Chair) and am currently a member of the Welcome Center Social Committee and the SSA Negotiations Committee. Since this position became vacant, I have stepped away from the SSA Elections Committee, but will return after the election. The second attribute important to the role of a treasurer is knowledge of accounting.QuickBooks is the accounting system HFC-SSA uses and I have taken a class here to learn it. I also have three years of recent experience using QuickBooks, as it is the same accounting system used to run my business. Additionally, I have twenty-six years of tax preparation experience. The final element that makes me the best candidate for the Treasurer position is that I have an orderly-minded and methodical way of thinking, which enables me to accurately monitor large sums of money and budgets.
Mary Thill, Records Associate IIIHello! I am Mary Thill and I am a Records Associate III in the Registration and Records department at Henry Ford College. I have been a proud HFC employee since April of 2014. Before my time at HFC, I worked as an Insurance Manager for 10+ years. I also explained and educated clients on insurance policies, premiums, and adjustments. I was responsible for minor accounting/bookkeeping transactions involving general ledger accounts. In addition, I processed cash transactions, electronic payments, and prepared the daily bank deposits. I also calculated the estimated replacement cost values of homes.I believe it is extremely important to show my commitment to Henry Ford College as well as the community. This year, I volunteered to work at the annual Graduation/Commencement Ceremony to show my support for the 2018 graduates. In May 2018, I attended the Project Search Annual Open House to support the Project Search interns. During the past year, I have contributed my time for the Susan G. Komen Wacoal event to support breast cancer awareness. I also helped organize bread donations for the University of Michigan – Dearborn Student Food Pantry and made cards for hospitalized kids.I have performed various tasks in my current role as a Records Associate III and previous Enrollment Associate II position including, but not limited to, performing extensive data entry and the handling of student confidential information. I earned my Bachelor’s in Business Administration degree majoring in Financial Accounting and Reporting, from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.I have an outstanding, solid background and reputation of maintaining good ethics and professionalism in the workplace. If elected, my goals would be to provide accurate and detailed data for everyone to have a clear understanding for any reporting of financial/budgeting information. Although there may be some tough unknown candidates nominated for Treasurer, I can only promise that I will do the very best job that I can if I am elected.
Thank you,SSA Election MembersKim BlackJill SestokKaren RichardsCynthia Brown
