SSA Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for a way to give back to your community? Do you need volunteer hours for a class? Make A Difference Day, the National Day of Doing Good is coming up on Saturday October 22, 2016. The Office of Student Activities has three great volunteer events available for you. Below you will find more information pertaining to each of the volunteer opportunities. Registration is required through the Office of Student Activities in the Student Center, M-105.Park Clean Up | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm | Shemansky Park20398 Penn St., Dearborn, MI 48124Help beautify the park and your neighborhood by picking up litter and various other tasks.Dress comfortably and wear closed toed shoes. If you have work gloves you are welcome to bring them. Plastic disposable gloves will be provided.Clair’s Home | 9:00 am – 12:00 pmPlease show up a little before 9:00 am. Any volunteer that is late and does not enter with the group will not be able to get in.It's on Detroit's east side, near I-94 and Van DykeVolunteers will receive directions the week of the event.Clair’s Home is a safe home for women (and their children) rescued from sex trafficking. This haven for freedom with provide a safe and secure environment during a two-year program of restoration from the trauma of human trafficking, including emergency medical, legal, and psychological services.Volunteers will help with tasks to prepare the home such as painting, cleaning and moving furniture.Dress comfortably in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and wear closed toed shoes.Fish & Loaves Community Food Bank | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm25670 Northline Road, Taylor, MI 48180Fish & Loaves is the largest client choice food pantry in the State of Michigan, distributing 1.6+ million pounds of food annually to 3,000 households.Half of the volunteers will assist in the office with organizing the files and half of the volunteers will help set up Santa’s Magic Forest (which is one of the largest fundraisers for the organization).Dress comfortably and wear closed toed shoes.Register to volunteer today and Make A Difference in your community!Thank you,Mandy EarlStudent Activities Associate313.317.1756
