The Support Staff Association (SSA) is planning a soul food luncheon in honor of Black History Month. The luncheon will be held on Thursday, February 20th from 12 noon – 2 PM in the East Community Room. Carryout trays will be provided for those who need to make their plate to go. The tentative menu consists of:
Fried and Baked Chicken
Mac and Cheese
Peach Cobbler Egg Rolls
Lemonade or fruit punch and bottled water

The February volunteer project will support First Step at their Karen Wilson Smithbauer Family Center in Wayne on Saturday, February 22 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. The exact project will be determined closer to the volunteer date depending on what the organization’s needs are. Projects could include cleaning, organizing and maintenance at the center.
The mission of First Step is to eliminate both domestic and sexual violence and to provide comprehensive services to individuals and families impacted by these crimes.
Wednesday, March 4 | 7:30 am – 9:30 am Literacy Day at Salina Elementary in Dearborn
Communities In Schools of Michigan is hosting this large Literacy Day at Salina Elementary in the Dearborn Public Schools, and we are looking for members of the community to be volunteer readers. Each volunteer would read one-on-one with a student for about one hour. The event occurs on March 4th, with registration opening at 7:30 am and reading with the students at 8:15 am. Gleaners Detroit Distribution Center 2131 Beaufait Street Detroit, MI 48207
The March volunteer project will support Gleaners Community Food Bank at their Detroit Distribution Center on Saturday, March 7 from 9:00 am – 11:30 am. Volunteers will assist in sorting food and packing food boxes to be delivered to local pantries.
Gleaners mission is to provide households with access to sufficient, nutritious food, and related resources. We accomplish this through collaboration, efficient operations, education, and innovative solutions to achieve a hunger-free community in southeast Michigan.

The Dearborn Historical Museum’s Pioneer School Program is coming up soon, and we are still looking for volunteers to help us make this year a success!
Here are the program details: The Pioneer Program runs Mondays through Thursdays, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, March through May. Training is available for all new and returning volunteers! There is no minimum time requirement for volunteers. Even volunteering for one program helps us out! If you are a part of a group who would like to volunteer together, please contact the museum so we can schedule a date that works for everyone.

Due to a recent vacancy, the election committee is accepting nominations for Vice President of Facilities. Any facilities member who is interested in filling the position should review the guidelines from the SSA By-laws and constitution that are attached to this email above.
This is not a general election, which mean if you are not a facilities member you can neither be nominated, nor vote for this election.

The election will take place during the SSA general membership meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 4:45 in the Rosenau A and B conference room. Only facilities members in good standing are eligible to vote.

Some of you have already began to submit your application and official transcripts to me but I wanted to send out a remainder to SSA members.
Per the SSA collective bargaining agreement, a Professional Development Fund has been established to pay for expenses for SSA members for:
Travel related to off-site conferences/seminars
Tuition/fees associated with certifications/licenses
Tuitions/fees reimbursement for courses successfully completed (“C” or better) in an accredited four (4) year degree program.
The committee, which consists of three (3) SSA members and an administrator from HR, meets three (3) times a year and will be meeting to review applications for reimbursement for expenses incurred during the 2019 Fall Semester.
If you have not already done so, please submit your application to the Office of Human Resources by Wednesday, January 15, 2019.
